Going fragrance free

I took Quinn to the doctor today to make sure that he didn't have an ear infection. He has been rubbing by his ear so I thought that maybe he had an infection. He had a fever a few days ago too. He has had really bad cradle cap and his skin always seems to be really dry with dry patches in a few spots.

He didn't have an infection but does have severe eczema. Here is a link with a picture of it so you can see what he has. He has atopic eczema over most of his body, including his ears and then severe eczema on a spot by his right eye.

The doctor doubts that this is a cause from food allergies but is probably because of fragrances in things that we are using. So, we are starting to go fragrance free. My clothes, his clothes and his bedding has to be washed without fragrances (mine while I am still breastfeeding him). We are going to finish the chemicals that we have that have fragrances in them and then we will start going to fragrance free with those as well to reduce any way that he gets a reaction. The other kids have a very mild case of this as well and have always had it. These changes may remove their spots as well.

One other change that we will be working on changing is the shampoo and soap that the kids are using too. Quinn can't use any of it and he now has fragrance free soap and shampoo. As the other kids use up the remaining stuff, I will be switching them to the fragrance free as well and see if this helps the bumps that they have on their arms.

I am glad we went to the doctor. I didn't realize that this is what he had and was actually wondering why his skin wasn't clearing up. With all the cold weather we have been having, I thought some of it was wind burn because it does look a little like that.

Our clothes may not have that "clean clothes" smell but they will be better for the kids.
