3 hour tour

Yesterday, our family had a 3 hour tour of Madison, WI. We were stuck in traffic because of a horrible accident that happened just North of where we were on I-90.

We left Rockford, Il around 3:00 PM on our way home to Minnesota. We were on I-90 and the fog was so horrible that we really couldn't see anything. It was like a wall was in front of us and it was really scary to drive through that. We sat on I-90 with all of the other vehicles waiting and wondering what was going on. Some of the semi's just turned off their vehicles since we were sitting so long. There were flares in the road to help us see and also to provide us with a caution. Cop cars and ambulances and other emergency vehicles rushed passed us on the side of the road off an on while we were stopped and we saw tons of them sitting on the side of the road lighting flares.

We were in stop and go traffic for about 2 hours and then we finally were taken off of I-90 onto road 12, along with all of the other vehicles that were on the road. We then started going on a road but really weren't quite sure where we were going. We commented that it was the blind leading the blind. We saw most cars getting off on an exit and the line was very long so we continued up the road. We stopped at a hotel to figure out where we were and then started back towards 30. We anticipated that we would be able to get back on 90 from this road but when we got to the exit, there was a police car in the exit blocking it from future cars entering. We were pretty disappointed because we didn't have directions from this point on since we assumed that we would get on at this point. We then saw cars being diverted that were going South on I-90 as well so we knew something bad really happened. We made our way through a nice little town called Sun Prairie that eventually led us back to Madison.

After three hours of stop and go traffic and being diverted through roads and towns, we finally found a road that would let us back on I-90. We stopped to get something to eat because at that point the kids were getting restless and needed to get out and Quinn needed to eat. They were all really good though through all of this.

We stopped at IHOP (Chris' choice) and got some food. The kids got chocolate chip pancakes but my healthy cooking lately must have made them realize it wasn't good for them and they didn't want to eat it. Instead, they argued over a brown crayon and drank lots of milk.

The rest of our trip was a little scary too. The fog was so thick in places that if there was something in the road, you would have hit it because you just couldn't see anything. We tried to stay with cars so we had more light and could tell the distance that we could see a little better. There were many moments though that you just had to have faith that nothing would be in front of us.

We got home around 11:00 PM safe and sound. The kids were exhausted and went to bed really easily :)

On the brighter side, our weekend was fun with the Williams Family celebrating Christmas. The cousins had fun together and it is cute to see them all interacting with eachother. Micah is motivated to wear big boy pants and use the potty and even used it at Grandma and Grandpa's. We are going to go with this and see if we can get him potty trained.
