My dad is in the hospital recovering from a surgery that he had last week. I wanted to go see him over the weekend but due to the storm, couldnt' get out of town. So, I had Tuesday free so thought I would go see him with the kids. Chris came too and took a day off of work.
My dad had from 11:30 am until 1:00 pm where he had some time off from physical therapy. The rest of his day is full of events, everything from recreational therapy to occupational therapy. So, our window to see him was little but we needed to go. He hasn't seen Quinn yet since he hasn't been able to sit comfortably in a car since the beginning of September when his accident happened.
We got there about noon and finally found his room and where he was. I must say that his hospital room is quite nice. Flat screen tv, dvd player and just a warm feeling with the colors throughout his floor. There is a rec area and some lounges as well that are also very nice.
We talked for awhile before he had to get to his next therapy appointment. But, we did get to take a look at his scar and get a picture of him holding Quinn.

We also got to get a nice photo of his incision. Yuck! He hadn't seen it yet so we showed him the photo of the source of his pain as well. The staples that are in there probably make it seem worse than it really is.

After we visited with him, we went over to one of the malls in Des Moines. Micah played in a play area for awhile (Sid is too big now) and then we went to go see Santa. The kids wrote a letter to him and put it in his mailbox and then they got to go sit on his lap. Micah went right up to see him and on his lap and just told him everything. I don't think Santa understood a word of it and Micah was telling Santa more about what we did today rather than what he wanted for Christmas. Sidney was very reluctant to even get close to the North Pole area at the mall but we made her go with us. After Micah talked to Santa, I think she realized that it wasn't as scary as she thought. She was still very shy going to talk to him and she told Santa that she wanted a bell for Christmas. I think she got this idea from the movie Polar Express. A little boy on that movie gets a bell. Hmmm. Wonder if Santa will get her a bell this year :)
We also stopped at Ames on the way home and ate at Hickory Park, of course. The kids loved it and we all had ice cream, which doesn't happen very often so it was a special treat.
The drive home was interesting. We knew that there was a storm coming but it was a really nice day. When we got out of the restaurant, the roads were wet but not really frozen yet. Once we hit Albert Lea in Minnesota, it was horrible. The roads weren't being plowed or they were and the plows just couldn't keep up. We only saw 2 cars in the ditch though on the way home which were on I-90 between Austin and the Rochester exit. Most of the time while driving on I-90, we really couldn't tell where the lanes were. Chris just kept the car in the tracks from other vehicles and occassionaly we would see part of a line form the road...but not very often. Most of the road was completely covered in snow. We did get home safetly but it took about an extra hour of driving since we had to go slower.
We had school today too which I am sure Sidney is happy about but most of the other kids in the area probably wish that we didn't. We are supposed to have another storm tomorrow so there is still a chance that it will be cancelled this week.
